All About Different Types of Filling Machines

Filling Machines are automatic or semi-automatic machines used to fill contents into a pouch or bottle and are extensively used in many manufacturing companies like pharmaceutical companies, food and beverages and any item as any product that needs to be sold has to be bottled or packaged. We shall now see a few different types of filling machines

Vial Filling Machine

The vial filling machine is a very delicate and process which requires a lot of accuracy, volumetric control, and consistent speed. This vial filler also ensures that quality is unadulterated and the correct volume flows into the process. The liquid vial filling machine is very critical in filling vicious and aqueous liquids in bottles and their functioning is very interesting to look at. While working on the principle of gravity, the rotary function of the machine transfers the vials from a conveyor belt to a plate which moves around in a circle under the filling heads so that there is constant movement. The filling heads rotate with the containers while getting filled.

The filling could work on either of these systems:

  • Volumetric filling-based on a self-pumping cylinder
  • Piston filling –which pulls the product from the hopper into the cylinder
  • Gravimetric filling –a system based on weighing the exact volume that needs to be filled
  • Servo filling-where the flow of liquid is measured by electric signals and variable data feeder with PLC-based circuitry.
  • Timer-based filling-controlled by timer and nozzle shut-off system once the liquid has been dispensed.
  • Peristaltic pump filling-computer tracking system which tracks the rotation of the pump to know how much product is dispensed.

Once this is filled, the vial filling sealing machine stoppers the bottle or pouch and is out for delivery.

Another variant is the dry Injection powder filling machine. This injectable dry powder machine is used to fill powder into vials. The sterilized powder is stored in hoppers and moved with agitators using eight ports in the injectable powder filler. A precise volume of powder is sucked by the port of the powder wheel and any excess powder picked is dusted off. The powder wheel uses vacuum and air pressure with a manual fill weight setting in the dry injection vial filling machine

Tube Filling Machine

This tube filling machine automatically fills laminate, aluminum, or plastic tubes with semi-solid products and seal the tube with a heat sealer. The tube gets manually fed and moved by a rotating mechanism to the filling station. Semi-solid products are then supplied to the filling machine by vacuum or sanitary pump. The conveyor then moves on to the tube filler sealer and then out of the process. Key parameters to be taken care of in this machine are:

  • Tube Filling Speed
  • Air blow pressure at the nozzle
  • The temperature of hot air at thermos sealing
  • Temperature at hopper

Ointment Filling machine

All the major transfers in this machine makes use of a vacuum to prevent contamination. Different viscosity ointments pass through this machine and hence this requires a lot of accuracies. Key features of this ointment filling machine include:

Paste Filling machine

These are very cost-effective machines and ideal for filling paste of different densities. Paste piston fillers which are horizontally attached to a pneumatic cylinder is the main part of this paste filling machine. A rotary valve and volume adjusting screw is attached and the gearbox drives the valve to and fro for sucking any material that is released from the hopper.
